BAC Lightning F.6 XS929 'BG' flown by Chris Allan at M.98 during RAF Binbrook's Last Last Lightning Show, August 22nd, 1987

Not Bruntingthorpe (if only), but the eponymous 'Last Last Lightning Show' at Binbrook, on a very soggy Saturday 22nd August, 1987. Flown by Chris Allan, on what was his final Lightning flight before leaving the service, the aircraft, F.6 XS929 'BG' was completely silent at M0.98 as it passed, wreathed in shocks - the noise followed ! It was so fast I didn't think I'd caught it in the viewfinder. Mach number taken from details given on a similar B+W print displayed at The Nickerson's Arms pub, Rothwell, when it was still packed with Lightning ephemera. Once a favourite watering hole for the pilots, and a true mecca to experience with various prints, parts and ejectee's boots nailed to the bar ceiling, it was sadly cleared-out and 're-furbished', losing all connections with generations of local aviator drinkers from its past in the process.
