Brice Coal Train on the Monroe Sub

In a very uncommon move a CSX coal train destined for the Brice Power Plant took an unusual routing from Atlanta to Greenwood, then to Monroe, Charlotte, Bostic and eventually Brice. The typical routing for these trains is they come from the coal fields via the Clinchfield Railroad, running via Shelbiana KY, Kingsport TN, and then to Brice on the southern NC border from there. When trains come in the 'back way', they also take a pretty direct route from Atlanta to Greenwood to Spartanburg where they then head to Brice, although running this back-route does require a run around move. But thanks to crew shortages, partially caused by a CSX derailment in KY causing reroutes via the Clinchfield, they took this very roundabout routing that also requires two runaround moves to Brice.

Here the train is seen completing the run around move at Monroe, where the train will then head to Charlotte and Bostic. At Bostic the train will have to run around again for the southward trip to Brice.
