Roll (empty) Coal

One of my favorite lines to shoot is the CSX CN&L Subdivision. Running from Columbia west towards Clinton, the 50mph mainline runs from small town to small town, passing many rural scenes along the way. Being a predominately coal corridor is an added bonus, as coal is my favorite type of train to shoot.

Sadly, ever since the Clinchfield shutdown, shooting CSX coal trains has become much more difficult since only a handful of mainline trains run per day and they are mostly at night, in order to avoid having to meet the Newberry local. Yesterday I got lucky as empty coal train E320 was leaving down at 1pm, giving myself and my bud Joe a chance to get a great afternoon chase on the CN&L.
