Advances in transportation

Here at Nanaimo's Moby Dick Motel begins the land portion of my commute. The canoe for the previous marine portion from Protection Island remains secured just out of the picture. The organic ballast served a greater purpose in the canoe than on the bike but I rarely left her behind. She may look uncomfortable but was probably just in the process of lying down. With such a full coat she looked heavier than she was but was no lightweight, contributing to my fitness if not hers. In her younger years she did have to walk up some steeper hills but was still traveling like this at the age of 18 and waited for help off the bike as well as onto it at that time.
