Waterproof
I have posted this one as I think it shows wonderfully just how waterproof their thick coats are.
Otter: Lutra lutra — affectionally known as Draatsi in the Shetland Isles
The Otter was nearly wiped out during the 20th century through a combination of pesticide poisoning, persecution and habitat destruction. They are now protected in the UK under the wildlife and countryside act 1981.
Otters are one of our top predators, feeding mainly on fish, waterbirds, amphibians and crustaceans. Otters have their cubs in underground burrows, known as a 'holt'.
For the best chances of seeing an otter in the wild, try the west coast of Scotland, the Shetland Islands or some parts of Wales, northern England and East Anglia.
