Hope and Reflection

Mount Hope Bridge, Rhode Island

This suspension bridge, built around 1930, spans Mount Hope Bay and connects the town of Portsmouth on Aquidneck Island with the town of Bristol on mainland Rhode Island. Because of its age and design, the bridge is now in a perpetual state of maintenance and repair, and is often down to one lane in either direction. This shot was taken from the Aquidneck Island side. Mount Hope, to the right of this shot, rises dramatically from sea level and tops out at a whopping 209 feet.
