Arethusa Falls
Crawford Notch State Park
White Mountains, New Hampshire
I took a quick trip to New Hampshire this past weekend with some family for some leaf peeping. Conditions were partly cloudy and brisk, but the colors were gorgeous. A short but nontrivial hike just off U.S. Route 302 outside of Bartlett brings you to Arethusa Falls, one of many scenic locations in the White Mountains. I was the only one able to make the hike, so I did not have much time to spend looking for the best composition and waiting for the best conditions. Plus there was a seemingly constant stream of people milling around the base taking selfies and whatnot. In any event, this is what I came up with. I'd love to go back off-peak and spend time experimenting with different locations and focal lengths. I'm thinking a winter shot on a sunny day with ice and snow would be sweet. (Note the dusting of snow in the foreground; winter is just around the corner in the Whites! There looked to be considerable snow up on and around Mt. Washington, the highest peak in New England, and one of the nastiest weather spots on Earth.)
Exposure notes: LB ColorCombo (warming polarizer + color intensifier), dialed in hard.
