2025 Forgotten Heroes

by bernalillo.county

On Thursday, Sept. 18, Bernalillo County laid to rest the unclaimed cremated remains of 38 military veterans at the 2025 Forgotten Heroes Funeral Ceremony.

A brief memorial ceremony was held at 9 a.m. at Legacy Church, then the 38 urns were loaded into hearses that departed with a law enforcement and service agency motorcycle escort for the Santa Fe National Cemetery for the funeral service and burial.

The veterans were buried with military honors courtesy of New Mexico’s Forgotten Heroes Funeral Program, created by the New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services, Bernalillo County, and the New Mexico National Guard to provide a military funeral for honorably discharged veterans who, upon death, are unclaimed by family or friends for interment.

The public was invited to attend to provide a final salute for these fallen veterans who have served our country.
