4-8-4's I have known

In the glory years of the Age of Steam these were the engines that powered the premier passenger trains. But they were also workhorses powering fast freights. These are the ones I photographed in action. Most were in "preserved" status of one kind or another at the time of the pictures, with the exceptions of the South Africa and Mexico.
