Wake up, Neo...

The Matrix has you...

Follow the white rabbit.

Knock, Knock, Neo

This was my first “endgame” board. It took a lot of moving parts, and went through some pretty serious changes before it became what you see. But boy howdy, does this hold a special place in my digital heart.

This was the original form of the board that you have already seen (think beige and yellow), and what lead me to fall for the form factor and layout. I had seen these kits teased way back when, and knew that I wanted to try and get my hands on one. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the sale to go live, and I nearly missed out on the gorgeous matte blue finish that you see. But once the order went through, then the real wait began. The case was made from moulds from some old Cherry G80-1800 by Cherry themselves, and retooled to support the new additions (custom plate, PCB, nameplates), and the paint work was done in an auto shop before being shipped out to their new homes across the world.

Nothing too exciting to say about the switches here. This ended up being my first full board with linear switches, and I really wanted to get something timeless; enter Retooled Cherry MX Blacks. These were made from some new toolings that make up the switch parts (stem, and housing), and out of the box were pretty good. I hadn't lubed switches before, so I figured I'd try my hand at it. Tribosys 3204 was my lube of choice here, and was blowing up across the community, so I thought I couldn't go too wrong there. The end result blew me away, throw in some heavier springs, and I was a fan.

Now this board was originally going to be paired with GMK Skidata, a set that I was super keen to add to my collection. Just for some context, GMK Skidata took inspiration from some older Cherry keyboards, it featured orange legends on a dark grey, and was set against this really iconic blue case. Across the board you can see callbacks to this idea; the orange plate, and LED badge just to name a couple of less obvious ones. However once I had gotten my hands on GMK >Terminal_, and saw how well the colours complemented each other, I couldn't go back (it probably helps that the greys in both sets are the same shade).

GMK >Terminal_ was my first GMK set, and it solidified my love for the classic Cherry profile keycaps. I love the contrast of the green on grey, throw it in the blue case with some orange highlights for good measure, and it just oozes character. The artisans on this board follow back to some of my earliest raffle wins, and trades/sales with other member in the community. I know not all of the colours match 100%, but it's all part of the journey and vision, more keycaps from B'Gnu-Thun and Coz, and some pretty sought after pieces as well; the Reaper (robo-skull) and Drone (bug-like robot) are from one of the most well known outfits Bro Caps, and I was stoked to snag these from some reddit sales.

Yet another custom detachable USB cable here. I find them so handy, and I loved the idea (for this board anyways) of having a cable trailing off the back of the board

All in all, this board really comes together with the “matrix” theme, and the bold colours really work much better than I feel they have any reason to. The effects that this has had on my keeb preferences has, and will be felt for a the rest of my time with the hobby.
