This build was a long time coming, and at present (June 2020), is my latest custom.

I had bought the KBD8X MKII with the intent on having a crack at building a 'silent" board, and thought it was a decent excuse to try out a polycarb case, and half-plate.

The idea of the half-plate was to have minimal impact during the bottom-out, and give the board a little flex and/or bounce when typing.

The Zilents are some of the nicest switches I've used; sweet tactility, super smooth, and the silent nature of the switch works a charm, without subtracting from the overall typing experience. I left the switches stock (factory lubed) as I was pretty happy with how they felt.

The muting kit is designed to absorb most sound that bounces through the case, lending itself to the "silent" build very nicely.

As for the keycaps, initially I wasn't sold when I say 8008 doing the rounds. But the more that I saw it, I began to really dig the two-tone blue/grey with pink highlights. Now the final product that was shipped is a bit different to the renders that were advertising the keyset, but I have no regrets, and still think it works really well.

The artisans were picked up on impulse with the intent of pairing them with 8008. And with the RAMA X being sold alongside the keyset, and being molded from silicone; I couldn't resist adding one to my buy for the pure novelty factor.

On the utility side, the PCB is programmable via QMK, and offers the usual flexibility as far as layout options, and customisation options. I opted to go with a nice simple 7u bottom row, and some gentle pulsing LED underglow.

All in all, I think it came together really well. The board ticks all the boxes I'd expect it to, and the keycaps and other options tie the theme up nicely.
