Les autorités algériennes avaient fait construire des blocs d'habitations sur deux étages comprenant huit logements en béton mais à la mode saharienne : la couleur d'abord, cet ocre orangé que l'on retrouve assez souvent localement et surtout les logements du premier bénéficiaient d'une terrasse à ciel ouvert mais à l'abri des regards, qui permettaient lorsque les grosses chaleurs commençaient à se faire sentir (vers le début mai) d'aller dormir à la belle étoile en toute sécurité, réveillé uniquement par les aboiements de quelques chiens errants
