PS-1

My son's college graduation is fast approaching. He will be graduating in 2024 from Penn State with a BS in Railroad Transportation Engineering.

It occurred to me that my ability to do things with him will be limited after graduation. You lose the "breaks" in the real world outside of school. I also had a ton of vacation time to kill before the end of the year.

My HO layout is based on the original Genesee & Wyoming in Western NY. I attended (and graduated from) the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1991. During that time, I came to appreciate the G&W so I based my layout on it.

My son had never seen the inspiration behind the layout, so the days before Thanksgiving 2023 would give the chance to expose him to railfanning in Western NY and the G&W.

industry is also the home of the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. They have amassed quite the collection of all things rail from Western NY.

This car was part of the first order of PS-1 cars by the Lehigh Valley. It was spared from the torch because it was purchased for storage. First at Manchester, NY and then to Victor, NY. It was acquired in 2019 by the museum.

As part of Power Systems class at RIT, we toured Victor Insulator. They made insulators for utility poles. One of my fellow classmates had co-op'd there and got us the tour. It was an interesting tour.
