Mr Fowlers 4Fs were an everyday sight for trainspotters in the 50s and 60s and even in the preservation years, somewhere it has usually been possible to track down a working 4F. But today the boiler certificate expired on the last current working example, 43924 a stalwart of the Worth valley for many years.
For those of us of advancing years, will we ever see one working again ?
It was therefore necessary to head north today to say goodbye, and at least the Gods arranged for the sun to shine on a couple of occasions.
