The train arriving

Just one feature of Burton on Trent station, namely the Station Road bridge, remains from LMS days, but the profusion of yellow paint on the platforms and the operative in Dayglow vest suggests this is not a very rare picture of a Duchess on the Birmingham Derby line in 1948.

Duchess of Sutherland arrives with a Vintage Trains trip from Bristol and drops off a few passengers who are greeted by some rather minimalist modern facilities lacking in any degree of architectural aspiration.

At least the recent refurbishment budget stretched to enable a coat of paint to be applied to the Midland Railway ironwork dated 1881.
