Crossing the Silver Burn
No. 1 Sutherland last steamed with her own boiler in 1964 and apart from an abortive attempt to steam her for the reopening of the railway by Lord Ailsa in 1967 she spent many years as a static exhibit. In 1996 she was removed from the museum and taken to Douglas workshops for restoration to enable her to star in the 125th celebrations. This involved borrowing the newly refurbished boiler off Fenella for a few years.
Sutherland emerged from the workshops in the light green “Ailsa” livery and is seen crossing the Silver Burn departing from Castletown on 28th April 2000.
