The rebirth
The rebirth. This was taken a couple of weeks ago here at my sister's home. The neighbor's yard still had this in bloom and with some buds. I wanted to update everyone about my sister because all of you have been so supportive with your thoughts, prayers and friendship!
She is making more and more progress each day. She is still in ICU and still on the trach, but, she is sitting up in a special chair for a couple of hours each day, can now eat ice chips and take small sips of liquids, able to get her wants across to us either by mouthing, hand signals and on occasion writing on a dry erase board. She still has some cognitive troubles and drifts into some other world sometimes, but more and more she is coming back to reality.
The docs are trying to wean her from the trach so that she will learn to breathe again on her own. Some days that goes pretty well and on other days she isn't able to tolerate it for as long as they would like. They started a bit of rehab exercises yesterday and she was thrilled! She got to sit up on the side of the bed, put her feet on the floor and then stand for a couple of seconds. She could sit up on her own strength for about a min or two and then had some assistance but wow! What a day!! She was so happy. Huge smile on her face and she felt as if she was doing something wonderful...and she was!!! Thank God for His grace and mercy for allowing her to return to us and thank all of you for your continued prayers and thoughts, your kind emails and understanding that I am not able to be here to comment. I spend the majority of the time at the hospital and when not there, trying to get some rest, do my laundry and play with my fur babies. You all are always on my mind and I am always praying that each of you and yours are safe and well. Hugs and love!!
