Token Gesture
The weekend of 8 - 10 September 2017 saw the Steam Gala of the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway, there were two visiting guest locomotives, one of them being Ivatt 2-6-2T numbered 41312, normally resident on the Mid-Hants Railway. In this image this versatile locomotive is seen at Furnace Sidings (the headquarters of the railway) working the 17.07 Coed Avon to Whistle Inn, a non-stop working, hence the exhaust seen emanating from the chimney. Close inspection will show the firemen on the footplate about to hand over the token from Coed Avon to Furnace Sidings, his other arm is raised to collect the token for the short journey to Whistle Inn. I watched the token exchange which was executed to perfection, pretty good for a non-professional railwayman. (Any error with the exchange could have been very painful for the 'window-hanger' in the first carriage.)
