First and Last
This was my first picture of a Freightliner Class 66 working a coal train within south Wales supplying fuel for Aberthaw Power Station. It was taken at Onllwyn Washery (which is seen behind the train) and features 66552 'Maltby Raider' working the 12.16 service from the washery to the power station on 9 September 2016. The 'Last' referred to in the title is that this working was the last ever from Onllwyn to Aberthaw.
Coal will continue to be sent to Onllwyn from Gwaun-cae-Gurwen for washing and onward transmission to Immingham, these trains are operated by DB Cargo and are anticipated to run only a couple of times each week, staff at the washery indicated that it is likely to remain open for about 4-years, though there have been some redundancies as a result of the last working to Aberthaw.
