Looking Up in Sultan Bayezid II Mosque

This is the intrados (underside of the dome) of Sultan Bayezid II Mosque on the outskirts of Edirne. It is within the Sultan Bayezid II Complex (Sultan II Bayezid Külliyesi) which included a hospital, a medical school, a soup kitchen and a hammam.
The complex was built by the Ottoman architect Hayruddin, who was the chief architect of the empire during the reigns of Sultan Bayezid II (r. 1481-1512) and Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent (r. 1520-1566).
