First ride on Fatso since lobbing the new tyres on, and thankfully (given their cost) they give a really good ride.

They seem to have a more rounded profile, and even allowing for my preference for biasing tyre pressures towards road use, they are a lot livelier than the outgoing Floaters.

Traction and general grip seem fine to me, given I don't push things hard anyway, but I've yet to tackle the Fat Bike's nemesis - wet slop hit at speed where the tyres float and skate about rather than biting through the mud, wheels go in several directions at once and bowels loosen briefly.

When fitting the tyres I'd also given Fatso a thorough clean and polish, and had a go at sorting out the increasingly recalcitrant rear derailleur.

Sunday morning warm bed inertia suggested not going out in the cold, getting a clean bike filthy and getting all frustrated if the gears continued clanking and rattling instead of changing properly. But I had to give it a go sooner or later so dragged myself out with little enthusiasm, and was soon glad I did so, as I had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

As mentioned, the tyres are great and have given Fatso a new found litheness and the gears snickety snicked perfectly.

A really good ride coupled with some quality nose poking in the woods made for a much better day than I anticipated.
