2022 NZILA Firth Conference Student Wānanga participants and organisers
Thank you everybody for participating in the landscape student wānanga at Manaaki Hapori ki Rangimatarau, at Te Noho Kotahitanga Marae on the 11th of October as part of the 50th celebration of the NZILA.
Thank you to the Te Noho Kotahitanga whanau who ensured the students were wrapped in the warm embrace of Ngakau Mahaki, from karanga to poroaki.
Thanks to the students from Te Whare Wānanga o Wairaka, Victoria and Lincoln, who worked hard to find ways to preserve the health of Te Waiunuroa o Wairaka. Your work will be a massive help to Whaea Tanya and Nga Kaitiaki.
Thanks to the organisers of the wananga; Di Menzies, Phil Wihongi, Matthew Bradbury and Josie Clarke, and staff from Te Whare Wānanga o Wairaka, Trina Smith, and Sandra Potier. Thank you to the faculty from Victoria; Hannah Hopewell, Victoria Chanse, Lincoln; Jackie Bowring, and Nada Toueir. We also thank the Auckland branch of NZILA for sponsoring the event.
Lastly, we want to thank Matua Haare for the inspirational words that gave the day a future purpose. The following day Matua Haare sent us a fantastic whakatauki. He whare tu ki te kaenga he kai na te ahi ko te whare tu ana ki te patuwatawata koina te tohu rangatira. A house standing in the wilderness is food for fire but the house standing in the fortified village is a strong and noble house. Taharakau of Rongowhakaata. The day was such a great success that we are keen for the three schools to get together again soon.
Thanks again!
