Scars

I’ve always been amazed at how rivers carve up the landscape and shape their surroundings. The really big rivers, even more-so, and this is a big one. Certainly hiking through terrain like this can be intimidating - the many channels and braids can be a completely impassable barrier, dictating where you will or will not go without a boat. From this frame of mind, the river is an obstacle to be managed along the way to another objective - I’m much more used to that impression of big and braided rivers. From the air, however, my impression of rivers like this is different. Only from above is it possible to really see the constant flowing patterns, the movement, and the influence on the landscape.
