Light in the dark
I’ll be honest, this effort to really try to shoot locally has been a rewarding one. In trying to make some local areas work, my ratio of photograph attempts to keepers has gone way down, I’m failing more, I’m less confident that what I’m capturing is going to work out, I’m making mistakes, but most importantly, I’m learning and growing. Like many others, I really gravitate to locations with a plethora of incredible subjects to choose from. Photography in some of those locations can almost be like therapy - there’s something interesting everywhere, so you have a lot to choose from. In here, however, the compositions can be a bit tougher to find, the subjects are more limited, and you really need to be a bit more creative to find things that are interesting. After this change of scenery, I’m hopeful that this experience helps me to grow as a photographer, and become more creative in my approach to new locations. Here’s hoping!
This little scene in walking distance from home really caught my eye - I could see some of this incredible light from a ways off and thankfully when I explored the scene the composition kind of fell together. Also, in an odd twist of fate, the presence of wildfire smoke ensured that the light wasn’t as harsh as it would normally be at this time, making this image more likely to work out. Neat!
Did you read all that? Thanks for following along with my ramblings and attempts at creating pretty pictures.
