Singing to the Stars
And on to a new location! I've gone to Killarney for photography a few times and I've often struggled to find things I liked. With that said, I think I've finally broken the curse and come home with images I'm happy with.
This was the start of my visit. I arrived at the park late, and as soon as I tried to get some sleep a party broke out in the camp ground - it became clear that there would be no sleep for me. I made the executive decision that if I had to be awake, I may as well try to get some photos. I ended up doing my hike a few hours early, but hey, it seemed to work in my favor.
Taken with a Canon 5D IV with a Rokinon 14mm f/2.8. I'll be frank, this image was a real pain to produce. I found that I just couldn't get the exposure I needed while I was out shooting.
I was half asleep when I took the image, so I'm really not sure if it was just a bit too much haze in the atmosphere, or shooting a typically darker part of the milky way, or if I accidentally moved off of f/2.8 (it's a manual lens so the aperture doesn't record in exif data). Regardless, I ended up needing 8 high-ISO exposures for median blending, an over-exposed image for the foreground, and with the additional work in Photoshop I ended up with an eye wateringly large photoshop document at over 2.4GB. Oh boy. I didn't even know photoshop could save images that large, though it did need a different format. Anyway, it seemed to work out pretty well in the end - I was able to remove a lot of noise and create an image I like. I'll take it!
