Today was the first time this timid little eastern chipmunk came out of its den since last November. Even though eastern chipmunks don't technically hibernate, it would be highly unusual to see one out and about during the dead of winter. The ground is starting to thaw now and that was this chipmunk's cue to see some sunshine.
