magnolia warbler immature at Vernon Springs IA 116A6137

Magnolia warblers specialize in searching for prey on the undersides of leaves. This one is looking for tasty caddisflies or mayflies, although they also like caterpillars and spiders when they can find them. After spending the summer in Canada's boreal forest where they nested in spruce or fir trees, magnolia warblers spend the winter in forests across southern Mexico and Central America.
