red-necked grebe in Anchorage AK 116A6679

I saw this charming red-necked grebe on a small lake in Anchorage where I stopped overnight last June on the way to Nome. I'll be headed back to Alaska later this month, but in the meantime I'll be fly fishing with my son in the fabled big sky state of Montana during the first part of September where we'll be enjoying some fine trout fishing and fantastic mountain scenery. As soon as I get home from Montana, I'll pack my bags again for a big birding adventure in Alaska. I'll be looking for Eurasian fall migrants that get blown off course and end up resting on the Pribilof Islands out in the middle of the Bering Sea during the latter part of September. Finally, in early October, I'll be flying to Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow) in search of the rare Ross's gull that sometimes flies close enough to the coast to see there during its fall migration at the top of the world, more than 300 miles above the Arctic Circle. I hope to be back on Flickr about the middle of October. Until then, thanks for all of your wonderful comments😊.
