Wilson's phalarope male at Cardinal Marsh IA 116A3133

In a turning of the tables when it comes to bird coloration, this male Wilson's phalarope is duller in color than the female. Once the female Wilson's phalarope lays her eggs in the nest, she leaves for good and lets dad take over incubating the eggs and raising the kids while she goes off and finds another husband. After wintering as far south as the southern tip of Argentina, this weary guy will soon be sitting on eggs somewhere near a North Dakota prairie pothole marsh.
