northern shoveler drake at Pool Slough IA 2K3A6725

Ducks don't come much more colorful than a drake northern shoveler. I've photographed these guys along the Texas Gulf Coast in the winter and on their nesting marshes in northeastern Montana in the summer so this male is well on his way to reaching his final destination. The Mississippi River backwaters are a great place to fuel up before flying the last 700 miles north.
