northern flicker male at Lake Meyer Park IA 653A4228

A good number of northern flickers continued to stick around Lake Meyer today as they waited for the rain to stop and skies to clear before taking off toward a warmer climate for the winter again. Compare this male with his black mustache (seen right behind the bill) with the female I photographed yesterday. She lacks that black facial stripe.
