shadow darner (Aeshna umbrosa) at Chipera Prairie IA 653A9180

You have to look close to see this clever shadow darner sitting back in the shadows and out of plain sight along a small stream lined with trees at Chipera Prairie. They rarely come out in full sunlight during the summer, preferring to do their hunting for winged bugs along dark shaded stream banks.
