DUSTY & SKYE FASHIONS & TRADE-IN COMPARISON
I recently got the trade-in version of Dusty from Kenner, (Isn’t her box groovy? She is wearing that funky polka-dotted ‘Trendsetter’ pants set here!) She would have probably been a later issue as the trade-in box date says 1976 instead of 1975 for the other original Dusty, who is displaying the complete Tennis sport set and Skye, who is wearing a very 70’s ‘Trendsetter’ fashion I recently bought NRFB. There are lots of differences between the two Dustys so I thought I would photograph them together for comparison. The trade-in version has lighter, ‘peaches & cream’ pink skin than the original Dusty’s deep tan and her makeup is also much pinker, especially her lips. She also doesn’t have the original’s freckles. Her straight, rubbery, non-rotational arms are different to the original’s rotational, bendable arms and rotational wrists, (the hands on the original Dusty also have a ‘grip’ feature so she can hold her tennis racket as you see here, and just like Skye, one arm is ‘spring-loaded’ as is her waist so she can really ‘hit’ that tennis ball!) The trade-in version also has a head that just moves from side to side, unlike the rotational head of the original. Her hair is also much longer than the original’s very 70’s ‘shag’ do, and her head is much bigger, as the original Dusty and Skye are usually now found with heads that have shrunken somewhat, (but I tend to think the original Dusty’s head size now suits her body better, anyway!) You can see Dusty and Skye wearing these fashions in the vintage TV ad on them here! www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciJebPa3ZLA
