FOR THE LOVE OF MARLO
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
My love of Marlos started at a very young age, when I was a kid in the late 70’s and saw a beautiful one for the first time in an old Australian film that aired on TV called ‘A City’s Child’. Looking back, it was probably a bit too ‘adult’ for a kid to watch and grasp what was happening, but all I could see were those beautiful 1969/1970 Barbies, and I REALLY wanted one as soon as I saw her, but alas in 1979, it was all smiling superstars and Malibus on the toy store shelf :( … I also tried (unsuccessfully) to change my one TNT faced Ballerina Barbie into a Marlo by shaving her head, then gluing a brunette flip wig on!
I finally found the movie online again, so decided to share it here with all my Barbie friends. The first part has more Barbie stuff in it. Scroll over to 20:50 and 24:53 to see the brilliant Barbie store displays… (Oh Lord, PLEASE send me one of those store displays and I will never ask for anything else again! LOL) They even rifle through some of those fab PAK fashions in that later scene. A little later on there are a few close-ups of that minty perfect brunette in her box (Oh, how I would love one in the box just like that… though she DOES remind me a little of your Tyler, Deany! :P) There is more of her throughout the film and a whole bunch of minty Talking Kens at 41:45 (but I’m warning you that they all meet a pretty grisly death in the next scene! Barbie sadly meets her own demise at the end of the film, too :P ) See part one of the film here! www.dailymotion.com/video/x5g3jrl
The pic I’m posting to go with this link is of my favourite Mod era doll… she was my first chocolate brunette Marlo, from a lovely original owner who kept her for over 40 years, (I have two of those now, a perfect blonde and an auburn hair coloured one named Tyler, who was a gift from Deany!) and she has a perfect spit-curl and a much longer flip than my other ones. This was an outtake from an earlier shoot when I got the lovely ‘Disco Dater’ for her…
