Zaanse Schans - Wooden shoes

The dutch have been wearing wooden shoes since the 13th century and many farmers, children, artisans, working people and gardeners still wear them every day, keeping up a beautiful tradition! Moreso, they are quite practical on dirty ground.

Most are machine-made today, although some are still made by hand. Carving and/or painting is also a common decoration to dress them up a bit.
