World Vs Bank Demonstration
On October 11, 2014, the World Bank publicly discussed its new draft “safeguard policy” – the details of which ensure (or don’t) that people and the environment are protected under the Bank’s investment in development projects.
CIEL and our partners have roundly rejected the draft policy because it dismantles protections and public accountability. Thirty years of hard-fought protections for people and the planet are rolled back in this new policy, which fails to protect the environment and respect the rights of affected communities, indigenous peoples, women, workers, and vulnerable groups.
We took to the streets in a massive World Vs. Bank protest to send a message: The World Bank must safeguard people and the planet – NOT corporate profits and human rights abuses.
