Jahrhundert war es eine der größten vierflügeligen Schlossanlagen nördlich der Alpen und prägte den Baustil der Lipperenaissance, der auch als „Horster Bauschule“ bezeichnet wird. Es steht seit dem 15. Dezember 1983 unter Denkmalschutz. Schloss Horst ist nicht nur eines der ältesten Gebäude in Gelsenkirchen und eines der bedeutendsten Renaissanceschlösser Westfalens - es ist auch ein lebendiges Kultur- und Bürgerzentrum mit vielen verschiedenen Angeboten: Es beherbergt die Stadtteilbibliothek Horst sowie das zentrale Standesamt der Stadt. ImKaminzimmer und im Rittersaal des Schlosses wird das Ja-Wort in romantischer Atmosphäre besiegelt. Außerdem finden in den stilvollen Räumen des Schlosses - insbesondere in der außergewöhnlichen Glashalle - regelmäßig Konzerte und andere Veranstaltungen statt.
