The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress

Super Strawberry Moon, with lunar halo obscured by clouds

First photo shoot with my new Z 100-400mm. This was completely unplanned, I just happened to leave work very late that night and noticed the halo and full moon on my drive home; I had not even realized it was 2022's Super Strawberry Moon. I set up immediately once home, but then dark clouds moved in. A temporary break allowed for this moody scene. Air traffic is from nearby Washington-Dulles International.

According to the Farmer's Almanac, June’s full moon has traditionally been nicknamed the "Strawberry Moon", as Native American tribes inhabiting the northeastern U.S. have used the moon to mark the time for gathering ripened June-bearing strawberries.

Title is from the fantastic sci-fi work by Robert A. Heinlein
