Me & Ocean - July BJP

The ocean is my soul-mate, has been for as long as I can remember. I embroidered this piece very quickly, not thinking much about how to tell the story about me and the ocean, just letting it unfold in an improvisational way. It seems visually musical, like the in and out tempo and soft-loud sounds of waves breaking on the rocks. It includes many elements of the ocean and it's all a part of me!

For those who like to know:

-- fabric: cotton batik

-- thread: Nymo, size D

-- stabilizer: interleaving paper

-- finished size of block: 9 1/4 inches across the diagonal

-- length of the "arms" on the beaded X-shape: 5 inches

-- beads: size 15, 11 and 8 seed beads, glass buttons, pressed glass shapes, carved abalone birds

-- eventual plan: join the twelve beaded blocks to make a wall quilt
