‘Unknown story’ – photographic project designed for a series of workshops on the topic of ’Self-reflexion and personal awareness’.
Taken December 2013
Buddhist concepts are related with these notions. The legend says that the prince Siddhartha Gautama, later known as Buddha, was living a sheltered life in his father’s palace. Surrounded with every worldly pleasure, he was kept safe from all the struggles of the outside world. But one day, he discovered the sickness of some of his subjects and became deeply troubled because he could not understand the human affliction he was witnessing. He then decided to retire from the world in order to discover peace of mind, but the years spent in ascetic practice proved futile. He finally succeeded in his quest when he turned towards deep recollections and analysis of his own inner struggles. A more meaningful existence was the result of the development of a capacity for self-examination.
The aim of the 'Unknown story' project is to find the right posture and movement for the wood manikin in order to express a certain feeling or idea, lighting of the scene being also important. This experiment draws the attention off the facial expression of the subject, which is usually the one that reveals the feeling, in order to concentrate on other factors in a possible scene.
