Hardest pull on the former NP was the 1% from Connell to Beatrice, which prior to the SP&S abandonment in 1987 wasn't an issue, with its .5% maximum grade. But Now the NP was busier than ever, and until the BN and successor BNSF rebuilt the line with double track and longer and more plentiful sidings, the hill became the primary bottleneck. The eastbound afternoon fleet is out of Pasco, and two in a row slogup to the top of the grade,three SD40-2's on the first train and an LMX GE set behind them at MP93.
