WAM logger switches Chehalis
Milwaukee Road's train #980, one of the "WAM Logger" assignments, builds its train in the small yard at Chehalis, Washington on the morning of January 29, 1980. Today, a pair of U28B's and a GP35 will move 70 loads of logs towards Tacoma. The logs were loaded by Weyerhaeuser subsidiary Curtis, Milburn & Eastern at their PeEll log yard, and moved to Chehalis. Milwaukee will move them to Western Junction, where some will be set out on Weyerhaeuser's Vail-South Bay logger interchange. Still more will be picked up there and join the rest of #980 to Tacoma, where they'll be forwarded to Tacoma Belt railroad and moved to Weyco's export log facility.
