Train #901, Western Junction
June, 1979, 3 U25B, U28B with Mount Rainier looming in distance. The small operator's shack here had recently closed; its primary function was issue orders to Weyerhaeuser log trains operating via trackage rights between Western Junction and Chehalis. After 1976, Milwaukee Road assumed all the log hauling here for Weyerhaeuser, and its subsidiary Curtis Millburne & Eastern stopped operating. The depot remained open until the 1979 retirement of long-time train order operator Joyce Marion, who had worked Western Junction since the early 1960s.
