IMG_5212 Oasi dei Quadris: ground nest 27: The bitter-sweet story of PA128 and PA108 and the stork with no name
PA108 and the "stork with no name" were born with deformed wings and could not fly. They lived inside the Oasi in adjacent nests that were built a few feet above the ground. Both were good neighbours and sometimes visited each other's nest.
This spring, another bird, PA128, born 3 years ago, came back from his first migration. It must have been a very difficult journey for him, because his wings appeared badly damaged and he was now no longer able to fly. That same day, the "stork with no name" was seen in the fields outside of the Oasi. She must have somehow jumped over the fence. Maybe she wanted to escape captivity, or perhaps she was chased by another bird. We will never know because when our stork men tried to catch her she had disappeared.
Now PA128 and PA108 share the same nest and are always together. I wish them all the best throughout their lives...but my heart goes out to the "stork with no name", wherever she may be...lost and unable to fly, or more likely, abducted or killed by some beastly hunter...
