Ceking Rice Terraces
If you ever find yourself in the central part of the island of Bali, you need to visit the Ceking Rice Terraces. The terraced rice fields in Bali are beautiful in their own unique way. While the rice terraces in China or Vietnam are amazing for their size, symmetry and geometry, the terraces in Bali are not as expansive, and are often steeply cut into the hillside and surrounded by jungle vegetation. They have a more primeval feel if you will. Here a Balinese woman in her kebaya and sarong carries an offering for the gods on her head. Everything in her offering basket is real by the way - real fruits and flowers are skewered onto a chunk of banana tree trunk in the center of the display.
