Most modern Balinese descend from the Hindu Javanese wave of immigration to the island, but the Bali Agas were already living in the mountainous regions of the island when they arrived. Today most of the Bali Aga people live on the eastern portion of Bali. Batik is a method of producing colored designs on textiles by dyeing them, having first applied wax to the parts that are to be left undyed. This dyeing method originated on the island of Java.
