Three Train Cars
Unlike most people of my generation, I am smitten with trains. My mom and I used to travel by train to Kansas (a trip that took several days). I suppose I took it for granted that I was afforded such an opportunity. Most Americans my age and younger have only ever ridden a train at an amusement park, which is certainly NOT the same thing. If you ever get the chance to take a train for a real ride, go for it.
It was funny that we happened upon this set of three train cars sitting in the middle of this track shortly after I'd finished reading Slaughterhouse Five. Although these cars were nothing like the freight cars in the book, it was all I could think of when I stared at them. It was a particularly sunny afternoon for late fall and this side of the train was drenched in rich, warm daylight. I spent a little extra time on this side trying to keep myself warm! Brrr!
