orphaned grey squirrels
About a month ago my brother found a baby squirrel in the parking lot being pecked at by a bird. It still had it's eyes closed so I figure it was around 4 to 5 weeks old. There was only one tree around so he checked to see if there was a mother near by but had no luck finding one. He brought it home and asked me if I would look after it. Of course I said yes and told him to start it on electrolytes and I would pick it up in the morning. A friend of his visiting suggested they should go back and make sure there weren't any more left without a mom. So they went back with flashlights and started a search. They found one more laying under the tree and it was not moving and cold to the touch. His friend put the baby in his pocket and started to warm it up and the little guy started to move. I didn't hold out much hope on it surviving but he proved me wrong. They are now 7 to 8 weeks old and doing great. I plan on releasing them at my new house which is loaded with oak and maple trees when they are ready to go.
