Mourning Mother, Lebanon - October 1982

Mother of a deceased partisan following the convoy - see first picture just before to get the full story.

Such scenes are hard to apprehend in western culture. Judeo Hellenic devotion to martyrdom is still prevalent in eastern cultures, A mother who has lost part of her flesh is torne between her grief and exuberance about her son's martyrdom, a hero who devoted his life for a "juste cause" so nicely depicted in Tolstoy's War and peace.
