Red Wolf
In 1980 US Fish and Wildlife declared that these wolves were officially extinct in the wild due to being trapped and hunted. According to US Fish and Wildlife captive breeding programs have increased their numbers in captivity to 241. A small group of wolves were released back into the wild in North Carolina and a breeding pair onto St. Vincent Island in Florida. As a result there are approximately 15-17 red wolves now living in the wild. Such a small number of these beautiful animals remaining.
